Wind-Renewable-energy
What we do in wind and renewable energy
We have been providing full turnkey packages to onshore and offshore assets and wind farm operators across Europe for decades. Our work on several large-scale fixed and floating offshore wind farm projects has involved cutting-edge technology and techniques from asset and environmental monitoring through to HV DC power control and cybersecurity. The growing demand for our expertise and services has precipitated the expansion of our capabilities beyond simply wind and we are across all forefronts of the renewables sector.
Industrial Hydrogen Control
With the energy transitioning to lower carbon sources, it brings new risks as well as opportunities. Thankfully Hydrogen is not new, and has been used in the industrial landscape at scale for over 200 years. That doesn’t mean it is without risk however, and careful consideration should always be taken throughout the life-cycle of the number one element in the periodic table.
We have been supporting electrolyser plants for over a decade, from process control and management through to safety and gas detection. With a robust regulation around the production of one of the most explosive gasses, we have the capability to design and build control packages across typical zoning requirement for ATEX. Gas protection systems can also be designed providing the optimum in safety for escape and explosion reduction utilising our in-house gas mapping and 3D modelling capability.
Intelligent process control in the production of Hydrogen is vital to improve efficiency of net energy consumption. Parasitic loads such as compression, drying, and cryogenic stabilisation need to be measured, monitored and controlled to optimise performance of the asset. The production of the Hydrogen may be part of a bigger chemical process, (e.g. Sustainable Aviation Fuel) and controlling the production of the hydrogen to reduce potential losses in product are vital. With the latest in DCS and SCADA plant-wide control can be at your fingertips on a mobile device or within the comfort of your control room, all ergonomically and elegantly designed to meet your needs and budget.
Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage
With the drive to reduce C02 emissions from industrial players we are increasingly looking at capturing the C02 at source, whether that be a Cement factory or an industrial Gas turbine. With each pyrolytic cycle of a hydrocarbon we release C02 and this can be cleanly and safely captured, compressed, transported and stored (or reutilised) to the benefit of the environment.
Like many chemical compounds C02 is mostly considered a gas in the industrial environment, and this gas has properties that are useful and also dangerous. The danger arises from larger concentrations where Co2, which is heavier than normal air, can be a risk.
When C02 concentrations reach around 15000 PPM, there is a clear danger to life, as C02 is suffocant, therefore early detection of leaks, emissions etc is paramount to keep your team safe and operations working. C02 does not pose and explosive risk from flammability, however pressure can be an issue and the temperatures during the adiabatic processes that C02 undergoes in processing are all risks to life. These can be reduced and mitigated through the adoption of accurate, reliable and available control systems.
We have in-depth knowledge of legacy equipment and plant, which is invaluable on facilities that are undergoing repurposing from Gas production to Gas sequestration and storage. Our control packages can be designed to meet the toughest of requirements, SIL ratings or standards. With the selection of equipment and hardware all agnostically selected for performance or your brand preference.
From Front end engineering to detailed design experience
For floating offshore wind assets, our engineering and instrumentation (E&I) design is leading the way in this growing market. We support your projects from concept to detailed design, including hardware and software delivery for complete turnkey control rooms.
Projects range from individual assets, including offshore substations and equipment, to large-scale research and development of DCS and SCADA systems. We have a proven record of implementing cost-effective SCADA and monitoring and safety systems for clients in the wind industry.
